Science is more than a body of knowledge, it’s a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those that tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we’re up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious who comes ambling along. When my daughter was 5 or 6 she sat next to me and was thinking out loud: "Fairies aren't real." (long pause) "Parents have money." (long pause) "Mom, are you the Tooth Fairy???" Over the next week she figured out the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. After Santa Claus she was a little frustrated with the process so she says: "Ok, Mom, are there any more of these grown up games I should know about???"
